How to Fit a Sew On Clasp It is a good idea to choose a strong thread to secure the clasps to your fabric. You could use an invisible thread or one to match the colour of your clasp or lining.   Attach a leather backed clasp using cross stitch thread in a matching colour.   It is always a good idea to sew through the lining and any interfacing in the bag for extra strength If there isn't any interfacing, cut a piece of strong fabric to go behind the lining and sew through both layers   Position the clasp so you have sufficient space to run the foot of your sewing machine above it to sew your bag eg 0.5".
